Review: Alaska Aces Jersey

Today we take a look at one of the previously released jerseys of the Alaska Aces, particularly the design of its 2007 championship run as featured in the book "Pacific Rims". The Jerseys were initially outfitted (Sponsored) by one of it's then assistant coaches' companies, And1. However, since local brand Accel owns the license for the current PBA Jerseys, they were the ones that produced for commercial release. Today we review the Jersey of one of the integral personalities in the book, 2007 (and 2002) MVP Willie Miller.

The commercially available one has the same trims and colors but uses a dryfit type of mesh as opposed to microshiny which most game issued jerseys use. It has black trimmings on the right side and gray piping on the left. The screen print is done for the black, white and orange areas of the logo and an opaque for the red parts, therefore saving an additional screen and textile paint color. A screen printed Accel logo and embroidered PBA logo finish the chest patches. A Surprising development here is that the jersey, despite being a commercially released one feels much more lighter than the game issued counterpart. The traditional jock and neck tag finish off the frontal details.

The back design features the player's name, number and Accel logo.

It used to sell for 700 bucks during its heyday bug nowadays, If you're lucky you might get one at half the price in discount bins. Pseudo "retro" jerseys like this one are starting to be a scarcity since once a player has been traded or a team changes its name, the team would have to purchase most of the remaining stocks.

The Pilipinas - Taiwan Twin Jersey connection

As you have seen in the ongoing FIBA Asia Cup, Smart Gilas Pilipinas 2.0 has been sporting a new jersey style similar to other Nike sponsored national teams around the world. Having the same cut and template means that one way or the other, we're going to have the same uniform as another team with a similar colored flag.

Enter their FIBA Asia Cup quarterfinal opponents, the Chinese Taipei National squad, same color, same cut, even the same font. While we're not complaining because those new threads are definitely awesome, we're also glad that we are getting the same technology as the top nations even if it is just jersey wise. One way or the other we are still going to end up with someone looking like us anyway since the colors red and blue are too common in flags. It is a good thing that we have the PHL coat of arms and the middle of the jersey (homage to the Caloy Loyzaga era).

Back in 2009 we had a similar issue with the Taiwan squad, but unlike now, it was still distinct because they had white trims in front and red at the back while we had red in the front and white at the back.

We then ended up changing to red come FIBA Asia 2009.

So, It remains to be seen if the PHL team will have a tertiary color but the recent kits are awesome by themselves. Be it having twins or not.

Review: PBA Atin to Retro Jersey Great Taste Discoverers

Last September 30, The PBA launched its retro jersey, with it came reproductions of the 25 greatest players in the league.Ever since PBA went into merchandising early in the decade, they had been clamored with requests on releasing retro jerseys. More than a decade later, it finally came true.

Planing to acquire something unique as opposed to regular popular and bandwagon teams, I settled for a Great Taste Discoverers Jersey of Ricardo Brown. Brown, a former Houston Rockets draft pick and PBA MVP. He played for Northern Cement, Great Taste and SMB . He is also probably one of the friendliest PBA stars to ever grace into facebook. The Orange/ Yellow/ Black seemed ahead of his time and one of the better looking jerseys during the launch. I would've prepared the beige one, but if there was one jersey that could redefine the quick brown fox's career, it is this one.

Review: Accel Coca Cola Tigers Jersey

Today we go with a blast from the past as we take a look at an "old stock" Coca Cola Tigers Jersey by Accel.

This Jersey was one of the earliest attempts by Accel for a PBA merchandise Jersey. It was probably made around the 2003-04 era when the Tigers were still dominating before going to a long slump. There were 2 types of jersey released by that time, a double cool and a dryfit jersey. This one is a dryfit jersey.

Review: DLSU Archers Dream game jersey

Today, we take a look at the Jerseys used for the PBA Blue vs. Green Dream game. The match featured Alumni PBA and former PBA players against each other at the big dome.

The Jerseys are head and shoulders above the ones used from the previous Ateneo La Salle dream game a few years back (those with yakult logos at the middle of the jerseys).

Review: Paul Pierce Adidas Jersey

 

First of all, I would like to state that, Replicas are not Fakes!. Replicas are one of the 3 jersey lines that Adidas/Reebok refer to their NBA Jerseys. The other two being Swingman and Authentic. Replicas are characterized by Rubber prints over the jerseys and were usually made by air cool mesh until the revo 30 era (SRP $49.99). With the average Filipino salary at 6-7,000php (120 US$) it is obvious that even the most basketball diehard middle class citizens are unable to settle for Authentic or Swingman Jerseys. That is why most officially released jerseys on local Adidas outlet stores replica. The Jersey was released August of 2011 along with BG and Stat.

Ever since the brand introduced its revo 30 release for authentic and swingman, it has also changed how it released its replica jerseys. The ugly air cool mesh seen since the days when Champion was still the outfitter are now gone. It is now replaced by a climacool type of mesh.  The rubber print is now Vinyl laser cut instead of the old Rubber printing. This gives the jersey a sturdier base for its print to hold on to and enables the print to last longer.

The Pic below compares the old Reebok replica PP34 jersey to its new counterpart.

Furthermore, the neck tag which sometimes causes itching at the nape area is replaced by a tag embedded at the collar area. This also holds true for its swingman and replica counterparts.

A good buy since orig NBA jerseys are scarce here, unless you consider the underground market.

UNC, Michigan Digicamo Jerseys

Jordan brand and UNC made a tribute last Nov 11 Veteran's day with these fresh looking jerseys incorporated with sublimated digital camo pattern for their Carrier Classic game. 

Michigan and sister brand Nike, Not to be outdone, also made their own.

They have accompanying kicks too.

PBA Atin to Retro Jersey Launch

Last September 30, 2011 at the Robinsons Galleria, The PBA finally launched its limited edition retro jersey line for the fans. Legends, Current Players, Jersey collectors and longtime fans flocked the sports loop. All 25 greatest players of the PBA were immortalized thru their jerseys during the event.



While the designs were still open for improvement and  It really took a long while before the PBA finally produced the Jerseys Albeit, in limited numbers. It is a big step for the underground basketball jersey collectors and longtime fans of the PBA alike.

 

I really wanted to cop the Aerial Voyager's 1995 Sunkist Jersey, Sadly they did not have stocks available. Instead, I grabbed Ricky Brown's Great taste Jersey.

 

Legends were there to sign autographs for the fans.

Review: Smart All Stars Jersey

It's been months after the Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend has ended. But the country is still not over from the high that it generated. From the High the NBA stars' aura, to their mesmerizing plays and Gilas' heroic stand. Surely, this is one of the biggest moments for the country's average basketball fan.What better way to commemorate such an event with a jersey of the Smart All Stars.

The microshiny fabric added with the  side designs and twilled numbers (the all star player's request) adds to the pro look of the jersey. No rubberized or screen printed graphics here. It feels like the authentic pre-revo 30 NBA jerseys.

What's good about this is that the patches at the back and the jock area are all sublimated. The smart logo in front is sublimated and Twilled at the same time.
