Booyaka 619
Last week, I had planned to join Fox Philippines' design your mask contest for a Rey Mysterio meet and greet. However, I was unable to find a physical DIY mask usually found at local bookstores and time constraints have prevented me from making one.
Running out of options, I saw another competition held by AKTV but it had a much narrower shortlist as Fox would allow the top 100 entries to make it in their meet and greet and AKTV would just select 20. I joined the contest and hoped for the best.
A few days gone by and there was no call from AKTV, I then shrugged it off and moved on, then the day before the event, I got a text from them telling I was in the shortlist and Rey would pick the top 3 designs in the event itself. At that point, I didnt care anymore about the top 3, the top 20 shortlist was my goal and anything else was just gravy. Off to Farmer's Plaza the day after.
The place was jam packed and there were a lot of fun and games. The ones who won the games would then enter the fan area along with the shortlisted entrants.

Former WWE Stars return to Manila! WWFX Champions Showcase Tour
Check out their FB Page!
I heard this from the PTK forums and FB. Wrestling superstars finally going to manila after 3 years. Most of them have performed in Manila in previous events such as the 06' RAW Live tour (Chris Masters, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin) 06' Smackdown Survivor Series tour (Ken Anderson, Shane Helms, Jimmy Wang Yang) and 95' WWF Mayhem in Manila (Billy Gunn) but there will also be other stars who will be coming here for the first time (Jillian Hall, Rhyno).
If the WWE is not coming here in the foreseeable future, might as well watch this. The Philippines needs its dose of live pro wrestling action. Hopefully they would have lots of fan interactions.

WWE Shirts (2011 Philippine Release)
Ever since the 80s, WWE memorabillia, especially apparel have come and go in the Philippines. My first encounter of such was back in 1995 when I got a kid's size British Bulldog tee from the Araneta Colliseum for WWF's Mayhem in Manila house show.
After which, WWF shirts again went out of circulation until the late 90s at the boom of the Attitude Era. Specialty shops in greenhills were selling them for a thousand bucks per shirt. This however, was the start of bootleg shirts in the wwe market as fake shirts of DX, The rock, Taker, Kane, Austin and the others reached your neighborhood sidewalk shop for 180-200 bucks a piece.
A trip to the WWF New York Bar and shop back in 2000 got me exposed again to the merchandise with Jerseys, Shirts and other memorabilia available. I remember spending over a hundred bucks at one go, which was big money back then (4,000 pesos) for a High school kid.
As WWE went out of Star Sports' programming lineup, the fan base and production of the shirts was again halted from 2001-2005. It was only brought back in in 2006, years after Solar started broadcasting WWE shows again and in anticipation of the 2 house shows that year. The merchandise continued to be available to the market until 07, when "licensing issues" were cancelled.

2009 Saw a mild reawakening of WWE merchandise as a house show was again slated for the Araneta Coliseum. Official WWE merchandise were once again sold at the venue. The shirts were sold at 900 pesos each and were the exact ones sold and worn by the superstars, however, those designs were 1 season late. Surplus from the event were sold at department stores for 500 pesos each but was only up to medium size.

Now, 2011 WWE Shirts are finally back at the Philippines, It seems someone has obtained the license to manufacture the shirts. They are now available at SM department stores teen section at a very affordable price of 300 pesos each.

However, you get what you pay for. 300 Phl Pesos (US$7.00) is way less compared to the 25$ retail price sold at the web therefore, several changes are seen from the original design. For example, this "fruity pebble Cenation" shirt contains a lot of differences. Seen above (1) the locally released shirt contains a light blue color as compared to the original purple armbands. Another concern is the missing HLR logo located at the sleeve of the shirt..

The back design is WAY different as well.

But all in all, with all the things considered (70% cheaper than the original price, a real "licensed product") who's complaining? at least we can finally obtain some of the old shirt designs without the hassle of importation and greedy "crocodiles" clad in barong tagalog.

My WWE Book Collection
For the past year, I have been interested in reading sports themed books. Running books, Basketball books and Wrestling books. A year after, the collection grew. Some new, others taken from the bargain bin.

WWE Events in Manila
1994: WWF Manila Mania
Location: Cuneta Astrodome (Thursday), Araneta Coliseum ( Friday)
Stars: Bret Hart, Undertaker, Yokozuna, Owen Hart, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, The Bushwackers Etc...
Side Notes:

The Wrestlers from "Pinoy Wrestling" (Joe Pogi, Smokey Mtn Boys etc) Had an in ring participation. It is kind of nostalgic back then since it was at least 3-4 years since Pinoy wrestling went off the air.
Bret Hart was the biggest draw of this card and was very appreciative of the Filipino fans. However, according to his book, My Life in the Cartoon world of wrestling, he had a bad experience sightseeing in the streets of Malate/Roxas Blvd. From the Kalesa ride of a horse nearly passing out to people peeing on the streets and pimps offering him underaged kids.
When Undertaker faced the late Yokozuna, They started off the match by a staredown, however the crowd started chanting "Kiss!, Kiss" This incident will repeat 12 years later with Triple H and Ric Flair.

This was the first time WWE was back in over a decade. Mick foley did promotional tour which guested in Wowowee, S files and Mall tours in Megamall and Gateway.
Their arrival marred by an idiot pinoy journalist disobeying the rules and still being arrogant when tried to be reprimanded by the bodyguards. The sensationalist tabloid reporter/ liar even had the audacity to petition to blacklist Foley even though he was at fault.
This was also the first time that fireworks and a steel cage match was brought in the card.
Gloria announced a state of rebellion which even shown during the event date. It was even shown at WWE.com that the superstars have been inside a politcal turmoil.
-HHH Front page of Phil Star

Security was a bit loose on this event. The wrestlers actually moved around the metro for 2-3 days. You can see Hardy and Helms loitering around the foodcourt of Robisons Galleria, Mr. Kennedy on a Mr. Softee Ice Cream Stand, Booker T playing golf at southwoods and The Miz buying bananas at farmers market.
Mr. Kennedy's Immortal Quote "Tahimik! Tahimik! Tigil! Tigil! Tahimik!" This was epic and turned some pops within the crowd for him despite being a heel. The night before, he garnered major heat by stating Eric Morales will beat Manny Pacquiao.

Batista did pre-promotion of the event but was not at the event itself. They had a promotional tour months before the event known as "The Animal in Manila2" where he visited malls and other landmarks in the country like Fort Santiago.
Edge was supposed to be part of the card but was injured.

Figure Fridays: Bret Hart by Jakks Pacific
The Best there is,
The Best there was,
The Best there ever will be.

Last Sunday's Over the limit was a comeback of sorts for Bret the Hitman Hart. Hart Interfered and played enforcer in Jerry Lawler's and Michael Cole's kiss my foot match. Bret Hart and Jerry the King Lawler were the combatants in the original kiss my foot match back in 1995.
Bret also came back to RAW the day after and became the special guest referee in the main event of Monday night RAW. The event featured Cena and Mysterio against R Truth and CM Punk in a Macho Man homage. After the match, we say the sharpshooter.
This is why the Excellence of execution is our feature this Friday.
I got interested in unmatched fury figures when they were already phasing out the Jakks Pacific figures, there's no available figures of the UMF Hitman for sale locally. Luckilly, a fellow collector helped me out in acquiring one through Ebay.
The details are great and realistic, even though the Jacket and the Unitard seems to be on different timelines of the Hitman's Career. The facial expression and the trademark pose represent an aura of 90s Pre attitude nostalgia.
