Figure Fridays: Unreleased (Locally) Slam Dunk figures

As was previously reported, Chinese company "Chaoer" has been producing several "unlicensed" Slam Dunk figures using their own mold/ designs. While these figures are not considered bootleg, since they were never copied from an existing Japanese made figure, They're more of G-system or AKO hobby for Gunpla ot Fansproject for TF figures.

There have been several figures that were released overseas but has yet to reach local Philippine shores. An example are the 3 While the details are still far from being perfect, you have to admire chaoer for taking initiative in making new sculpts.

The first one is a mini diorama collection of the popular scenes and commercial outtakes in the series in SD rendition.

The next are 2 more figures that were of the same series as the Rukawa statue earlier made by the same company. They had added 2 more to the line since then.

A 23.5 cm statue of Sakuragi Hanamichi in dunk pose and AJ1 Breds.

The next one features Hisashi Mitsui in a shooting form, complete with Onitsuka Tiger kicks.

Here's to hoping we finally get to see them in local shores in the near future.

TK Holdings Ryota Miyagi

After the Sakuragi Hanamichi figure released last year, TK Holdings will have a new figure in Ryota Miyagi under it's spirit of Takehiko Inoue line. It features the same highly detailed yet static pose. Out this autumn 2012.

Review: Rukawa Kaede by Chaoer

Today we review a Kaede Rukawa figure made by Chaoercomics. This figure has been popping out to various stores and conventions in the metro.

Which brings us to the mystery, what is Chaoercomics? This 3rd party company has been producing numerous Slam Dunk figures, from the mini SD figures, to the SD figures from other teams. I've googled Chaoercomics and it seems they also have their own figure lineup for several anime titles. The question is, are they licensed? If they are not, these figures should be placed under the unlicensed 3rd party producers who have their own mold (Fansproject for TF Toys, G System for Gundam Models).

The figure has a good balance with the stand. Rukawa's Air Jordans clip well towards the base. It doesn't tumble down and I don't see that it will have the bending issue on most Mcfarlane basketball figures.

The figure has an original mold, quite detailed. Details and tendons can be easily seen and it contains an original pose.

As for the colors, there are some discrepancies for paint that run from the facial details, particularly the eyes. another annoying part is the inaccurate script font at the chest of the jersey. Jersey trimmings are also poorly painted.Another issue is the crappy fonts on the jersey. Also, as you can see on the first pic, where the figure is with an original TK Holdings Sakuragi Hanamichi, TK Holdings figures do apply detailed shadings and painjob all over the jersey. Chaoercomics' Rukawa did not even bother to paint over the red colored vinyl.

Review: Sakuragi Hanamichi Figure (TK Holdings)

It's been nearly 2 decades since Takehiko Inoue's Masterpiece graced the Manga and our television screens. While there were tons of merchandise back then, Cards, Shirts and even Stationeries. The series is lacking in the figures department. With few articulated figs by Bandai and a lot of bootleg super deformed figures over the past 18 years.


Fast forward to 2010, A new Sakuragi figure finally debuted in the market. The Figure is made by a relatively new company known as TK Holdings. How does this bode out? Let's See:

It has been more than a decade now after slam dunk has ended. 5 years after the last epilogue was shown. The series may have ended, dr t may have created more new basketball titles like vagabond and real than continuing the series. But the story remains is in a class of its own. If Boxing has Rocky, Hockey has the Mighty Ducks, Football has the Replacements and Karate has Daniel Larusso and Mr. Miyagi, then Basketball has Slam Dunk. The series has been so Iconic that most of the time the Japan National team plays abroad, the slam dunk's theme. (team pilipinas gets anak and noypi played overseas).

With that, Slamdunk merchandise and collectibles are hard to come by, most of them even bootleg stuff. Collecting memorabillia from this series is tough.

While it is hard to get an authentic slam dunk jersey made by banpresto/bandai. I got to grab a hold of customized jerseys thanks to Jerseyhaven, distributors of jerseys of the most popular amateur and commercial leagues in the Philippines.



I got a shohoku Sakuragi Hanamichi in Iconic Red and Black Away. It really matches the Black/red AJ1 retro From the Jordan defining moments 63 points package, which also played a very important part in the story.



and Kitcho Fukuda jersey, white is a better color for ryonan since they only wore their blue jerseys once in the story (and another in the opening)


Its been 4 years since summit media, re-released the slam dunk manga made by chuang yi. Last year I was lucky enough to get the back issues at 35 php a pop. Too bad I could not find 3 of the 31 issues (the summit version)



The last is a customized mcfarlane sakuragi hanamichi, yes, I'm still new to this customizing an NBA mcfarlane figure so please bear with it, but I figured out that I want a large scale figure of the guy. The base figure is Juwan Howard.

Overall, this goes to show that even when a series has ended a long time now doesnt mean its the end in collecting.

The Real Hanamichi Sakuragi?

I Came across this article regarding the supposedly Real Life Hanamichi Sakuragi circulating through the net. Too bad that the article is not true. The world could need an example of hope such as him.




"Hanamichi Sakuragi was born in 1968 in a family of the common and current working class. Slam Dunk: 10 Days After

Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk was not only one of the best manga and anime series ever created, it is also one of the most inspirational underdog stories around. However, The story went short as the 101 episode anime series only covered up to the regional finals and the 32 volume manga only made it at the End of the season. Sadly Dr. T never did any sequel or continuation for it. The only known scene after the season was the Shisheido commercial where scenes of rukawa, miyagi and sakuragi playing together where shown. Miyagi wears the jersey no. 4 to indicate that he is the new captain.

Last 2004, at the 10th yr aniversary of slam dunk, Takehiko Inoue made a mini comic sequel of slam dunk named slam dunk 10 days after. The event took place 10 days after the ending of the manga. he wrote the manga on a school and each page was on a classroom's blackboard.

The manga was about the everyone preparing for the next season. Akagi can't study well in college because he can't play basketball. Rukawa Studying english, Kogure visiting the team, mitsui making up for lost time and wants to impress college scouts. the freshmen training hard to compete for the vacant starting five slot. Miyagi is seen skipping class and studying leadership books as the next captain.

The other teams prepared as well. Shoyo was very superstitious with hanagata changing his glasses, hasegawa cutting his hair and fujima slimming up. Ryonan on the other hand had uozumi teaching the team members, scolding sendoh for fishing at practice time. The captain became Koshino instead of sendoh. Kainan was investigated by yayoi aida on their secrets since they got 2nd place iin the inter high.They saw maki Surfing, kiyota racing with his dog and jin jogging.

Coach taoka and kainan's coach takato are discussing a combined kanagawa selection for the winter tournament (shoyo ryonan, shohoku and kainan). But cant decide who between them will be the coach.

Anzai was told by doctors to jog for his health. Ayako sees him and chats for a while.

The sannoh players were reflecting on their loss to shohoku. Masashi and his younger brother Mikko was training harder when the Masashi told his younger sibling that he'll train him since he and sawakita will leave the team. Sawakita is seen on a plane going to the US.

Finally, the scene shifts to sakuragi, still on the rehab center. His trainer was telling him that he saw sakuragi's inter high games and was impressed by it. She asks sakuragi if he can be the first japanese nba player, sakuragi says he will go to the US and be it because he is a tensai.

Funny though a few months after this, Yuta tabuse was signed by the phoenix suns and became the first japanese player in the nba. He was released 10 days after when the Suns merchandise in japan got sold out
