Figure Fridays: McFarlane Sportspicks Tom Brady

Tom Brady

When you speak about Boston Heroes, you usually hear the names Bird, Rice, Cousy, Speaker and many more. You probably heard about Tom Brady. Brady, One of the most recognizable athletes over the past decade is the gutsy pin point passing quarterback of the New England Patriots which delivered super bowl after super bowl in the 2000s.

I have been seriously looking for a Brady figure here in the Philippines, Sadly, this is a country where NFL is only known by some hardcore sports buffs and some fil ams. Luckily I got one at one of the Specialty stores here in Manila. Though It was supposed to be some factory prototype from China since there are Chinese Characters, Signature and OK signs written in the figure. After getting the fig for 6$, I decided to repaint it and give some sort of decency to the figure.

Pardon with the Curtis Martin figure defending him, as I said, there is a scarcity of Sportspicks figures in this country, Unless its the NBA since Hoops is a religion here.

KG 4 Sportspick's Fail Shoe

Photobucket

The Garnett 4 figure is one groundbreaking mold for the mcfarlane nba sportspicks series. This is the first time that a player is depicted on his warmups rather than the usual jerseys.

However, upon checking the KG 4 there is something wrong with the foot. Since Adidas has never made a shoe like that. It turns out to be one of LBJ's Shoes. Which means obviously, the mold was originilly intended for LBJ. Here is to hoping that mcfarlane will change the shoes into the TS Commanders before it gets released on feb 2010.

Customized Mcfarlane Sportspick - Kelly Williams #9 Team Pilipinas
(from TMAC version 3 base figure)

This is the first time I customized an sportspick figure. I saw a lot of customizers do renditions with their sports picks figures for players or variant uniforms that havent been done as of yet. But I havent seen anyone do local (PBA) Players. I've been doing model kits before but this seemed to be a whole new ballgame. I Re sculpted the face and did the decals. The base was also re designed and the Jersey was repainted in the proper colors.

OMG Larry Legend, What have they done to thee?

Although it is nice to hear that Mc farlane Sportspicks is having more celtics players included in their latest action figure lines (3 of the last 4 lines have players from the C's. However, there is a Problem due. Take a look at Larry Legend's new Figure.

Photobucket

The rosy cheeks, the smooth legs and the very akward pose. It is really hard to imagine that this would come by and pass the eyes of critics, collectors and fans alike. The pose of about to receive the ball from a pass looks great but needs improvement in the execution stage. If there is any consolation, the Parquet floor and the celtic logo on the base looks good.

Its sad to say that there are so many other Celtic legends that are eligible to be immortalized on the action figure line. Yet they created a second figure of an existing player. We still need Mc hale, Cousy, Parish, Jones, Havlicek, Auerbach and more to the mix. As well as Ray Allen in Celtic Green.
