Tigers choose former C's Big man as next Conference's Reinforcement

The Powerade Tigers acquire former Celtics big man Dwayne Jones. Last time I saw a Tigers/ Celtics connection, It was a guy named Tony Harris a guy who scored 105 points in a single game and led the team to multiple titles in the early 90s.

a Year's anniversary of Running: Bull Run 2012

A year ago, I started in competitive running with my first ever fun run, the Bull run 2011. I placed 55th out of 570 participants in the 3k division. A year had passed. I have participated in dozens of races, evolving to 5k,10k,15k,16k and 21k respectively.

Planning to join half marathons later in the year, I opted to join the 16k instead.

Prior to the race, I have trained continuously for this race, making sure I had least a Physical activity per day and placing more vegetables on my diet.

I luckilly arrived with time to spare on the race, good thing that it was still dark when they started the run since this meant less time to be exposed in the heat of the sunlight and more efficient running due to the lower temperature.

As expected, I started slow but finished strong, I was even surprised that I didn't have long walking breaks at the flyover en route back to bgc.

Race support was great, unlike last year. There was overflowing Pocari seat and water as bananas to boot.

In the end, the result: A new 16k PR! 2:05:35 That's about a six minute improvement over my last PR which was held at moa/roxas blvd area which had no hills, this one even had 2 flyovers to boot.

The funny thing is that my loot bag contained a 21k finisher's medal instead of a 16k. They must've ran out of 16k medals, Too late when I realized it as I was already on my way home (Medal was boxed).Anyway, it's framed now so no return, no exchange.

In most races, a sudden slowdown happens at the area where there is a hill, but the venue itself (the whole race course) was a collection of deep hills?

Last January 31, Greentennial race organizers presented "Rescue Run for Sendong" an event held in mckinley hills organized in just 9 days.

It was only my second time at Mckinley hills. The first one was part of a 16k route for the 2011 takbo.ph runfest. Back then, having ran by 10 km already, It was hard doing 1 loop around the area. But now we had to do 2 loops.

Overall it was a great race since it only cost us 150 pesos and those will definitely go to charity in helping the victims of Sendong.

Merchandise were also sold at the event, like the overruns of the 2011 KOTR singlets.

No loot bags and all but Hydration and race support was sufficient. There was a surplus of Pocari Sweat even after the race.

Semifinals on we go

Now that the high on the historic upset win has ended, the Tigers have found themselves in a not so familiar place, a semifinals stint for the first time in half a decade. Looking at their way is the tough Elasto Painters. squad led by its tough mentor. Coach Yeng, having coached Gary back in his Air21 days says he knows his strengths and weaknesses. Like a double edged sword, El Granada also claims his familiarity with Yeng's defensive schemes, Preparing himself with a plethora of though physical defenders Rain or Shine will unleash on him.

As much as this was billed as the hyped matchup between the first and second picks of last year's draft, the main matchup for this would be David and Lee (No, that's not the former Knicks player), 2 main guys, fearless scorers who would carry the bulk of their team. The Painters do have the bulk when it comes to support in scoring as there are at least a few guys that can lead the team in scoring when Tondo's Angas goes out from an off night. As for the Tigers, the 2 Gilas Alumni in Lassiter and Casio would be David's Insurance Policy once he goes on an off night, the rest of the Tigers also contribute well, but in other aspects of the game.

Post Battle

Another interesting spin to this is the battle at the post. JR Quinahan, while ineffective with the tigers last year has became a legitimate post threat under coach yeng, as well as Big Belga. Together they will team up against the improved Doug Kramer, Crisano, Rommel Adducul and (according to facebook posts) Powerade's version of Sakuragi, Sean Anthony. Once again the Tigers are under-matched on paper and would need to give it their all to neutralize the Elasto Painter's bigs.

Filling out the seats

2 new teams knocking down the 2 most popular teams of the league, the public is wondering if people will watch the series. While PBA's one game a day policy for the semis is good TV wise (all four brands placing in primetime slot). It doesn't ensure to put seats on those arenas. But seriously, 2 new, young teams eager to prove themselves and not included in the local bandwagon.

The matchup will start a couple of hours now. As I said before, most underdog upsets end their Cinderella run after upsetting the strongest team of the tournament, Powerade needs to break this spell.

Boston Big 3: The last stand?

Following the emotional high of the Celtics' deep 2002 playoff run the atmosphere in the air was festive, Basketball is now back in Boston. After years of tragedies, frustration and people "not walking through that door" The C's found themselves at a place they used to be familiar with, title contention. And while the series against the future Brooklyn Nets was lost 4-2, there is an uplifting tone that this team can finally be brought back to the glory days.

Eventually, a new guy was bought at the helm. Former Celtic Danny Ainge, the perennial shooting guard from the 80's who also had duels with MJ back in 92' and 93'. Ainge was known for bold moves which acquired criticisms for the team's hardcore fans.

The early years' results were then disastrous. The Celtics flirted with mediocrity, followed with consecutive eliminations from the Pacers and Nets before plunging to the lottery and eventually, the deeper part of the lottery. It was such a decline, conference finals elimination, conference semifinals elimination, first round elimination, lottery and climaxed at the second worst record in franchise history.

Since the C's became a 1 superstar team, top notch free agents didn't want to sign with our team. Because of that, we were hoping that a draft pick can help us, Danny did that, but his luck at odds were at 50-50 some of the names drafted/ traded by Ainge in the pre-big 3 era were Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Rajon Rondo, Delonte West, Orien, Greene, Tony Allen, Leon Powe etc.. . A bunch of guys became solid contributors, the others went to international leagues. Good thing that Ainge was able to "harvest" some of those stars and turn them to the big 3.

Why am I saying this? That long frustrating wait might be a reality come next season.

The Big 3 era was fun while it lasted. 2 conference semifinals appearance, 1 miraculous yet stalled playoff run, and a dream championship turnaround season. In the Philippines, where most fans are obviously just in for the bandwagon, this finally led to some.. C's merchandise. Last time I saw them was as a kid in the 80s and it was fun seeing people in C's jerseys while commuting around the metro.

The sneaker game also went so well for the C's. Sneaker companies began producing kicks with Celtics colorways. We did not have to rely on the Truth's kids exclusive sneakers (dumb move). Even brands without endorsements from major C's stars were shelling out their colorways.

This is probably the last stand the 2nd Big 3 era will have as the main protagonists. I kinda want them to remain here next season, for significantly less but still making way for the team to sign some big names at the free agent market. That's how the Celtics teams of old conduct their business, slowly transition aging starsto veteran leaders and guide the young stars for them to lead the team. But times today are so much different from when Red handled the helm.

The future might be as bright as it is dark. The C's will finally have money to attract big names and free agents, but will they agree to sign in Boston? players now are all about, going to the big markets, weather and hanging out with their friends. Supposed the C's were unable to grab big names next offseason, history might repeat itself moving forth. As sad as it may be, to contend at present, you'll need a "super team".

All facets considered, how will this last stand shape out?

Today is the start of a brand new 66 game season, while getting off in the wrong foot. An injured captain with his backup out for the season. Bandwagon columnists are predicting them below the 4th seed. The season is still long, and trigger happy trader Danny Ainge wouldn't stop by a second to make a critical deal done. Anything can still happen.

Hey, before playoff time, no one gave the Mavs a chance last year.

Review: Converse Defcon

The Converse Defcon is the main line for Cons' 2011-12 basketball campaign. Last year's campaign which consisted of the Sicks Mid and Star Player EVO, launched at the 2010 world basketball festival was mildly successful at best. Mainly through the efforts of JJ Barea's finals run. This year, the brand would try to make another bid at the shoe game with the Pro Leather 2k11 and their flagship model for this year, the Defcon.

The Look

The Defcon is as modern as it gets, devoid of its past traditional basketball look. The shoe looks like it was mainly built with 1 solid piece of rubber based vamp, slapped with a bit of patent leather in the toe area. The patent leather runs up to the tounge area of the shoe. The particular gunmetal colorway makes it look like an armored van, or a mech inspired shoe as the textured and perforated rubber piece in gunmetal looks like an slap on armor. Aside from the vamp , patent leather toebox and perforations, the shoe contains a mini window to view the balls or CBT midsole.

Colors

The Defcon's US release lineups was done in a plethora of team colors as well as black with accents of neon green, yellow and orange, respectively. The Philippine release on the other hand was limited to 2 colorways, gunmetal and varsity red. What works for the gunmetal scheme is that it's neutrality mixes with most jersey colors, particularly those with accent colors of black.

Performance

Due to the balls technology, the Defcon's traction enables for a more on court feel, beaning traction while running, sprinting and stopping remains the same. Contrary to the bulky impression of the shoe, it can withstand a full run and gun game.The contain technology helps protect the ankle and make it stable while grabbing those rebounds and blocking those shots. I had a week's run in of pick up games wearing the Defcon, It works for a defensive center with a not so completely healed left ankle. The CONtain fitting system does work.

Review: Adidas Promodel Zero

The Adidas pro model has been one of the staple models for the brand's performance basketball line. Through the years, it has had its own shares of upgrades, updates and add-ons. This year, the promodel gets a makeover with the new lightweight adizero technology with the Pro Model Zero.

The Look

The name "Promodel Zero" suits the shoe right. It feels like a cross between the traditional Promodel line and Adidas' Crazy Light. The Pro Model's aspect highly visible on the shoe's construction, and the crazy light influence on it's numerous perforated areas. Even the shell toe area is now embedded with ventilation holes, But instead of a whole shell toe area, a "partial" shell rubber area stitched at the patent leather takes place.

Fit

The Shoe's fit is a bit tight at the front, particularly at it's signature shell toe box. It is more recommended for narrow feet. As for the rear foot area, the snugly fit is just fine.The shoe is so snugly that you really need to loosen the laces to prevent discomfort upon trying to put it on. The snugly feel however works to your advantage by providing ample support particularly on the ankle area.

Material

The promodel's main area is made up of patent leather with some perforated mesh areas right at the ankle area for additional ventilation. Midsole is then made of EVA . The tongue area is also made up of patent leather, with the black accent color and green mesh.

Performance

The shoes' lightness really works, It feels like a running shoe with cushioning due to the torsion system. However, to get a feel of the court, one has to break it in and add a little pressure from the start so

There is enough ankle protection due to its firmness, as with firm shoes, you just have to be careful on how you would land your strides while sprinting up and down the court. Though it's patent leather is flexible enough to prevent a full force ankle hyper extension in instances that a sprain occurs (via wrong stride or landing at another player's feet).

Overall, another solid team shoe by Adidas, it might at par compared from its top of the line models (signature Drose and Howard Kicks) but still holds its own.

The one chance in hell: Powerade Tigers!

I have been supporting the Powerade Tigers since they were still known as Swift Mighty Meaties, but this game is the best I've ever seen them perform. And that is not an exaggeration.

Yes I have seen them all. Tony Harris' 105 point explosion, the 1995 near grandslam run, going at the bottom for the mid 90s, having a brief run at the battle for thirds in 98', languishing again in 99-2000 before finally capping off with semifinal appearances in 01' . The year after that, they were acquired by the SMC and won some titles, including one on Christmas day of 2002 and then went to mediocrity the later half of the decade.

A year and a half ago, the team was renamed as the Powerade Tigers. It was a though welcome for the new look squad. The team went to a bad stretch in the all Filipino cup, losing their last 7 games and extending their losing streak through the commissioner's cup (A total of five months). A heartbreaking missed buzzer beater against Gilas ended the Tiger's chance for a playoff in the commissioner's cup. The Tigers performed well in the governor's cup, but was ousted due to quotient.

Watching last year's Powerade Tigers was tough. Watching them live was even tougher.

I remember rushing in if they are slated in the first game of a doubleheader, going to the Big Dome's restroom to change and wear my Powerade Jersey as I enter the lower box and cheer for them the whole game duration only to come up short, ending in a sorry loss. While exiting the halls of Araneta, I remove the jersey and change back regular clothing to avoid ridicule and confrontation. Some PBA fans are tough, overly emotional and sometimes, can be tactless and rowdy.And yes, most of the games I watched then were losses.

Luckily, the team was able to get a set of fangs in the draft. with Marcio Lasiter and JV Casio, Powerade fans were jubilant. Then again, outside the Powerade fandom, no one gave this team a chance. Season previews placed the team in 7th or 8th. As the season started, the team was at .500 at best. With their top prized #1 pick and top play maker out for the first few games, they struggled the rest of the games, but recovered in the last 4 to cement their mark at the 8th spot.

Come Playoff time they are now placed against B-Meg Llamados. No one outside of the "Katigre Pack" gave them a chance. Some "Experts" even made insulting and demoralizing statements towards the team. The Llamados were on an 8 game roll, but the Tigers were also on a "Mini Momentum" of their own, winning 4 of their last 5.The first game caught the Llamados off guard via a big win.

The real story of this underdog upset was Game 2, particularly the third quarter.With Casio down due a sprained ankle and Celino Cruz being ejected off a scuffle. Powerade was down big, their 2 point guards out within a 10 second span. But the mark of a true hero is when your back is against the wall, then the stars shine the brightest. Gary David played like a man possessed firing three after three, burning the net with ease. And the rest as they say, was history.

One can say there are other better performances in the league's rich history, actually there are a lot. But this story, from the frustrating buildup, down to the game 2's dire circumstances made this extra special.

El Granada was one of those stars who was always at the back, the one who always gets the short end of the stick. Kinda reminds me of today's Monta Ellis or a Pre-Big 3 Paul Pierce. Always snubbed, looked down and ridiculed for being a great player in a weak team. But once given the chance, would let all of the years of built up frustration out. That was him last night, playing like a man possessed. Other team's fans may find this reaction arrogant and wild, but those guys have probably supported teams that were always on top. Sometimes, looking from outside in, tells you the true value and importance of a victory.

Don't get me wrong, B-Meg is my (far) second favorite team in the league and I know they've prepared and played their hearts out. Calling this a fluke, or overconfidence for B-Meg is a joke.

So after this epic win, what now?

Most underdog stories end their Cinderella run after beating the strongest foe in the tournament, sometimes they go further but they just run out of gas. History has shown that. Shell blew out Ginebra in 99' after they defeated Mobiline. The 2011 Memphis Grizzlies ran out of gas with a 7 game series against the Thunder. The 2007 Warriors was defeated by the Jazz in 5, same with the 94' Nuggets and 99' Knicks. Heck, even television and movie stories don't help, Shohoku was blown out of inter high contention by Aiwa after giving it their all in beating the national champions Sannoh.

But every team is different. If there's one team that can do that, it is the Tigers. This team is made to change history. I'm not guaranteeing a win or a loss in the next series (that was a moral lesson we learned from a certain "Someone") What I can say is that, when the tigers smell blood, they will fight to the end.

I heard this from the PTK forums and FB. Wrestling superstars finally going to manila after 3 years. Most of them have performed in Manila in previous events such as the 06' RAW Live tour (Chris Masters, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin) 06' Smackdown Survivor Series tour (Ken Anderson, Shane Helms, Jimmy Wang Yang) and 95' WWF Mayhem in Manila (Billy Gunn) but there will also be other stars who will be coming here for the first time (Jillian Hall, Rhyno).

If the WWE is not coming here in the foreseeable future, might as well watch this.The Philippines needs its dose of live pro wrestling action. Hopefully they would have lots of fan interactions.

The Converse Pro Leather 2k11 is one of two entries of the brand for the upcoming 2011-12 NBA Season, the other being the Converse Def Con. The 2k11 is highly inspired from one of Converse's pioneer endorsers, Dr. J Julius Erving. This is a good move for the brand to compensate for the lack of big names. Lately, Mavericks guard JJ Barea was spotted sporting one during his stint at the Pan Am games with the Puerto Rican national team.

The Shoe was launched last November 3 at the Cedar lake studios, NYC. The event was attended by the Design team and some of the players of Team Converse.

Like the Converse Weapon Evo and Star Player Evo , The Pro Leather 2k11 is a redesign/ evolution/ update of a classic basketball shoe from 1976. The Original Pro Leather was also worn by the legendary Doctor J. Julius Erving is once again brought back by the brand for this shoe's campaign.

Look

The main body of the shoe is built within 2 different fabrics. The mesh/leather area covers most of the ankle area while a 2 tone metallic leather at the toe area.The dual texture body of the shoe is then divided through the star chevron logo/ brand.

Colors

The scheme of blue, silver and white runs over the shoe. As stated earlier, the toe area contains a special 2 tone color with different shades of metallic blue. This would really look good if you'd like to represent JJ Barea's 2011 Championship squad or Dr.J's teams, the Nets and the Sixers.

Several details of the shoe, including detail shots of the balls, star chevron logo, mesh, Dr.J's signature and more.

The Shoe's cushioning relies on its tried and tested CBT or Converse Balls Technology which basically cosists of small rubber made spheres that enables a player to absorb impact and bounce back energy to the feet. Unlike most of the recently released basketball shoes which feature breathable and mesh type fabric, The Pro Leather's mesh features a sort of "breathable cushion" coupled with CONtain technology assisted by an external TPU heel counter that keeps your ankles on a perfect snugly fit.

Performance

I took the Pro leather on 3 pick up games so far, As I can see, the Pro leather has improved over the recent releases of the brand. It feels a lot cooler than the Weapon evo and less stiff than the sicks. The full CBT technology helps as well in "Feeling" the court.

As much as I don't want to bash my Alma Mater's running club, what they did was unacceptable.This was my 24th and final run of the year, and sadly, had the worst on the race support and assistance side.

First of all there were barely, to no hydration at all. This is because there are only 3 hydration stations at the whole route and "barely" because by the time you passed them, there were no more water/ rockstar energy drink to serve you.

Second is the late start of the race, they can't even determine which site the runners might start.

Third and the worst is the sharing of the route with the red cross event. While they gave us a small space to pass through, it was still blocked by thousands of their runners/ walkers. You literally have to pass shove and part thousands of them just to get across

What's worse is after making a U-Turn at Luneta, the red cross run had started. crowded by those thousands, Walking! and stopping and shouting upon the sight of their Jeje-celebrity idols.

Fourth is having zero marshals to the race. The marshals that were guiding us were from the red cross run

Luckily, there were some bright points

The finisher's medal was big, there was an unannounced finisher's shirt, which was a good surprise. There was still no water at the event area but there were overflowing milk and yogurt.

Review: Accel RN Pursue

Today we review Filipino brand Accel's entry to the newly competitive running shoe market. The brand has gone a long way since producing those Mighty Kid sneakers back in the 80's. Now, they have produced running gear in PHL inspired colors, how did it bode out? full review after the jump.

Construction

The shoe's stitching was pretty solid. sturdy and snugly fit at the heel side while still has quite some room for breathability like a NB shoe.

Colors

Colors wise, is where the RN Pursue stands out. For a sport where multi colored sneakers stand out, its Philippine inspired colorway really shouts "Represent". It's predominantly blue and white with streaks of silver, red and yellow.

Details/ Finishing

The details may still not be on the perfect side, as there are still some flaws present in the shoe. Exceeded mold residue flushes and some excess glue particularly at the lower areas. However nothing outstanding as how the errors go.

Weight

The shoe's weight ranges between a normal basketball shoe and a lightweight running shoe. It does carry some weight but the weight is compensated by its cushioning. Good for heavy runners with neutral pronation.

Then again as with every running shoe/ you need to break in them for some time before using them in a race, particularly in the longer distances. I'd recommend these shoes for distances up to 16k.

Price wise, the RN pursue can be bought at P 1,899, department stores offer sale discounts and place it at P1,720 or P1,520 depending on the store's sale promo. That price range is ok for a mid performance shoe. For the low cost line, I seriously would rather prefer Accel than the fake class A seen at tiangges around the metro. First, you have legit sporting brand and second, they're still head and shoulders in regards to performance.

First of all, I would like to state that, Replicas are not Fakes!. Replicas are one of the 3 jersey lines that Adidas/Reebok refer to their NBA Jerseys. The other two being Swingman and Authentic. Camp Run 2

I was a bit hesitant on attending this race, because the day before, I had a really high fever and was overstressed to boot. It's a good thing the race was a bit late at 7:00am. This allowed me to get more rest and helped the fever subside even by a little bit.

I arrived at the scene 45 minutes earlier, there was a big delegation by the military. Too bad there were just a few civilian runners for this race, but the mood was festive and happy enough. Soldiers aged 39 and below went for the 10 while those above 39 went for the 5k. As for me, looking for a light run before next week's half marathon, went for the 5k.

Going on my first 100 meters, I was surprised to be at first place following only the pacer vehicle. Of course the soldiers would eventually catch up to me after their bottleneck at the starting line and I'd register my worst 5k time due to racing while nursing a fever. But that first hundred meters of being first in the race was something to remember.

As for the race itself, Camp Aguinaldo was really nice and great for training / running. No bystanters, vehicles and it really felt secure. Though it was heavy on short hills and had 2 obstacles (tire relay and net at the front of the finish line).

In the end, there was aplenty of stuff at the loot bag and I managed to get a camp run 1 shirt for only a hundred bucks.

Run United 3 Experience

I entered the race late, just when the 15k runners were about to start, when I called my colleagues, they were already at the CCP. By km 3 I was able to catch the end of the 21k pack. After passing a few more runners, I finally caught a glimpse of my buddies at the Roxas boulevard area, just after the U turn near macapagal, but then again the head start was already too far. There was plenty of hydration in this race except for the last 2 kilometers, where the heat was really unbearable. I got cramps at the last 500 meters of the race, with so many people egging me to go, I sucked up the pain and had a strong finish, but was grimacing in cramps after crossing the finish line.

In the end, my chip time produced another 21k PR. I finally completed the Runrio trilogy, though too bad that my RU1 was at the 5k distance. Looking forward to my next half marathon this coming December 4 at the Animo Run.

Review: Rukawa Kaede by Chaoer

Today we review a Kaede Rukawa figure made by Chaoercomics. This figure has been popping out to various stores and conventions in the metro.

Which brings us to the mystery, what is Chaoercomics? This 3rd party company has been producing numerous Slam Dunk figures, from the mini SD figures, to the SD figures from other teams. I've googled Chaoercomics and it seems they also have their own figure lineup for several anime titles. The question is, are they licensed? If they are not, these figures should be placed under the unlicensed 3rd party producers who have their own mold (Fansproject for TF Toys, G System for Gundam Models).

The figure has a good balance with the stand. Rukawa's Air Jordans clip well towards the base. It doesn't tumble down and I don't see that it will have the bending issue on most Mcfarlane basketball figures.

The figure has an original mold, quite detailed. Details and tendons can be easily seen and it contains an original pose.

As for the colors, there are some discrepancies for paint that run from the facial details, particularly the eyes. another annoying part is the inaccurate script font at the chest of the jersey. Jersey trimmings are also poorly painted.Another issue is the crappy fonts on the jersey. Also, as you can see on the first pic, where the figure is with an original TK Holdings Sakuragi Hanamichi, TK Holdings figures do apply detailed shadings and painjob all over the jersey. Chaoercomics' Rukawa did not even bother to paint over the red colored vinyl.

Like most shoes from it's line (and it's sister company, the swoosh) Converse did a limited release to celebrate the lunar new year with the Year of the Rabbit Chuck Taylor All Stars.

Fit:

Fits just like any chuck taylor would. not a bit snugly and just right. I've always preferred Hi-tops over ox cuts. Not only does it provide more support and fit, they also give you more of a Chuck Taylor feel.

Acessories:

The shoe comes with another acessory, white colored laces. With this, you can easily customize the laces through your mood and still stick through the shoe's monochromatic mood.

Design:

The design features several rabbit silhouettes scattered around the place with several phrases done in cursive writing. The design is done in black and white. While the rabbit silhouettes are basically done in embossed, mesh, the writings are then screen printed. A black and white Chuck Taylor logo tops it off.

Feel:
Same as your old chuck taylor shoes, lightweight, durable and has ample traction to get you through the day

Running after Dark

Last night, I was treated to my very first night race. The Adobo Run After Dark. I really don't know how to prepare for a night run, since morning runs have you a bit groggy and sleepy before the race starts, while night runs have you tired and exhausted before the race starts.

So yeah, there I was, after MBA Classes and basically lifting my trusty Celtics backpack with 30 pounds worth of stuff through various trips at the LRT and MOA. Also, the driver forgot to bring my gym bag containing important stuff like the Hydration belt, Petroleum jelly and Bodivance. At the venue, they gave us Iced coffee before the race. I was a bit weary because I just drank Sting Lime a few minutes ago. When the event finally started, there was a festive carnival-like entrance to greet the runners, I was surprised that the 3k had already started. We then lined up for the 5k run, had a few speeches from the beneficiaries and ran. The fatigue from the day's work clocked in a bit and there was a little bit of cramping and stomach cramps. After a while, the pain disappeared and I was able to catch up towards the last 2 kms.

In the end, I clocked in at 29:35. a bit far from my PR last April but still good to finally break the sub 30 for 5k . I still don't know my rank but it was enough for the top 500 finisher's medals.

As a bonus, before coming to the race, I was able to cop some good reads from the Sale at NBS and Fully Booked MOA branches.

Review: Kevin Garnett MINDstyle x Coolrain NBA Collector Series 1

This KG Figure is a part of the CoolRain x MINDstyle x NBA Collector Series 1 which featured ten of today’s best Ballers in the NBA. The series was launched early 2011 at Ronac's Secret Fresh.

Box

Like most designer toys, the box is packaged randomly and what you get would be based on your luck.The box features the whole lineup plus the possible jersey colors they have. I myself did not want to waste Php 850 for a blind box with some random player I don't want, so I got an "Opened" KG for 1,100.

Articulation

The figure has 7 points of articulation, mainly the shoulders, wrists, ankles and neck. That's about it. Art/Vinyl toys don't usually have articulation anyway but I just wished they added some waist articulation for more possible poses.

Detail/ Paintjob

Details at the least are pretty much okay, except at the collar ribbings. There seems to be some quality issues especially at the back side and the decal placements at the jersey. The face and shoe articulation however, are great. The Anta KG1 looks well detailed here.

The Lance Armstrong / Livestrong Baller band, along with the elbow pad provides a nice touch.

Accessories

The figure comes with an extra pair of hands and a ball that It couldn't even grip. It's even hard to balance the figure and find the center of gravity.

Overall, If you're looking for some cute and affordable NBA Vinyl figs then this is a must have. Word of advice, better get the loose ones if you're looking for a particular player.

DLSU Centennial Jackets, Adidas vs Nike

Today, we take a look at the 2 DLSU Centennial Jackets made by two of the world's leading sporting brands. Because, at the midst of its centennial year, the Shield of green and white switched sides from the 3 stripes, to the Swoosh.

Nike DLSU Centennial Jacket

The DLSU Nike Centennial Jacket was not released commerically but made available only thru its varsity players. The design is similar to the Commercially released 2010 Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas, 2010 USA Fiba Worlds, 2010 Ateneo and 2010 FEU Jackets. It features a Square outline pattern which runs from the sleeve area up to the chest. The upper chest part bears the school logo and the swoosh mark.

The back design bears your generic placements of the Green Archer logo just under the nape area and the big script seen at the back. What makes this different from the other UAAP/ National Team Nike jackets is the sublimated patch at the back which also bears 3 additional logos.

The logos contain the School seal and the two centennial logos, a text based one, and a silhouette of St, John Baptist De la Salle. The Sublimated Patch is then sewn at the back.

Unlike the Nike Released Counterpart, The Adidas DLSU Centennial Jacket was commercially released with most of the sizes completely sold out. As of now, there were still some which made it to the markdown, Albeit with extreme sizes such as Women's XS and Men's XXL Left.

The Jackets were released in cream white and green colorways and featured the centennial logo proudly displayed at the back. The print is big and occupies at least the lower 3/4 of the jacket.

The front design features the Adidas logo and DLSU Star. Side Design is made up of the trademark 3 stripes and followed by black accents at the neck collar, sleeves and the waistline.

Overall, the 3 stripes win by a hairline.

PBA Atin to Retro Jersey Launch

Last September 30, 2011 at the Robinsons Galleria, The PBA finally launched its limited edition retro jersey line for the fans. Legends, Current Players, Jersey collectors and longtime fans flocked the sports loop. All 25 greatest players of the PBA were immortalized thru their jerseys during the event.

While the designs were still open for improvement and It really took a long while before the PBA finally produced the Jerseys Albeit, in limited numbers. It is a big step for the underground basketball jersey collectors and longtime fans of the PBA alike.

I really wanted to cop the Aerial Voyager's 1995 Sunkist Jersey, Sadly they did not have stocks available. Instead, I grabbed Ricky Brown's Great taste Jersey.

Legends were there to sign autographs for the fans.

Review: Smart All Stars Jersey

It's been months after the Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend has ended. But the country is still not over from the high that it generated. From the High the NBA stars' aura, to their mesmerizing plays and Gilas' heroic stand. Surely, this is one of the biggest moments for the country's average basketball fan.What better way to commemorate such an event with a jersey of the Smart All Stars.

The microshiny fabric added with the side designs and twilled numbers (the all star player's request) adds to the pro look of the jersey. No rubberized or screen printed graphics here. It feels like the authentic pre-revo 30 NBA jerseys.

What's good about this is that the patches at the back and the jock area are all sublimated. The smart logo in front is sublimated and Twilled at the same time.

Experience with Lightroom

A little over a year ago, I initiated my first ever photoshoot which was lighted, directed and conceptualized by myself. It was a bit hard because while I was used in photoshoots, I had assistance with fellow photographers and staff.

The shoot was about a cosplay shoot for the video game tekken 6. I had a friend who was a cosplayer and he invited his friends for this shoot. It was held at our factory with a newly brought strobing system that I still haven’t had a grasp on back then. So, there it is. The meetups took a while longer than expected, and the make up/ dressing up time was a bit long too. We started the shoot at 3:30pm in the afternoon and that time on an enclosed factory building, ambient light can be a bit scarce, and even with the lights that were available that time, it was still dark that I had to jump up my light sensitivity up to ISO 400. My camera can run up to ISO 1600 which can produce a justifiably lighted image, however it would entain an ugly, pixilated portrait.

Because of this I had to sacrifice the lighting rather than having a grainy image. To perform this, I had to set up my camera to shoot files in RAW format rather than Jpeg compression.

Cameras capture an image which has multiple light ranges. But since a camera, no matter how advance it is, is incapable of choosing the best range of light for the aesthetic properties. That is why, when a camera shoots in jpeg format, the camera decides to choose the standard color/ hue and lighting range that it was instructed or programmed to do so. Regardless if the image looks better or uglier.

Sure, the jpeg images can still be corrected through photoshop. However, since jpeg is a compressed file, it will use the existing pixel data on the file and force it to be lighter or darker, hence it would also result in a very pixilated image.

With the RAW file format, all the light ranges of the certain digital photograph are stored. It would use this range rather than the existing pixel data in order to adjust the global settings (brightness/ contrast/ hue/ saturation, etc) therefore allowing you to edit your picture without sacrificing pixel quality. One of the most famous RAW editing programs is Lightroom.

After a few tweaks and turns, here is the finished product.

Now the issue here is in regards to Photomanipulation done through the lightroom, and should it still be considered as photography or as an Image composite. The answer is, there are 2 kinds of settings done thru Photoshop. Global settings and Digital Manipulation itself. Global settings includes the brightness, contrast, saturation and white balance of the picture. This practice is done not only by digital means, but also during the days of film wherein Photographers adjust them when they are still being developed at the darkroom.

A Few months later, It got featured in this photobook.

Alex Compton - As most basketball fans would know, Alex is as pinoy (or even more pinoy) than some fil-ams or even locals will be. His stint with the National team (As a reinforcement in one of the past Jones Cup tournaments) and decision to stay here past his playing career and learn our culture proved his love for the country. His longtime wish to play in the pros finally came true when the PBA granted the Welcoat Dragons the option of having a second import back in 2007.

The Present:

Gabe Norwood - Mr. President, Sixth man of the NCAA Final Four George Mason Patriots and now the main man of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. His very graphic inspired #10 jersey is widely available in local sports shops (I suggest getting the Away version).
